Answers to your questions
What does the right server and service layout for my infrastructure (sizing) look like?
Time and again, it’s important to know how to organize servers and services for an infrastructure to achieve ideal search times and maximum up-to-dateness. With this release, our Mindbreeze Enterprise architecture sets the bar higher than it’s ever been before.
Fabasoft is in the process of optimizing the accessibility and intuitive usability of all its products for people with disabilities. But not by taking each product successively and making long-term promises. We’re working on all our products in parallel.
At this point I would like to praise the hard work and agility of the Mindbreeze team. I’m happy to say that the Mindbreeze InSite Search has achieved an excellent level of usability for blind and partially sighted users.
In this post I would like to bring the Mindbreeze InSite search closer to the users of screen reader programs. Continue reading
It’s been mentioned a few times already on this blog how important it is for you and your customers to find content on your website. What you maybe don’t know however, is that it only takes a few minutes for you to register your site for Mindbreeze InSite and to tailor InSite to your individual needs. Let us show you here how quickly and effortlessly you can make your life easier. You can also find tutorial videos for the steps shown below.
“Social Media” – I’m sure it’s a term that you’ve heard mentioned recently. Suddenly a term that didn’t mean much if anything at all not so long ago, is on the tip of everyone’s tongue.
You can quickly lose touch if you don’t stay tuned in and up to date with the latest trends. Almost all companies now have a presence on the social network Facebook. But it’s often the case that these company presences are not active enough – often because there simply isn’t enough time to maintain the Facebook page.

Professional. Easy. Collect.
Nowadays almost every company uses social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook just as much as a document management system. So why not use these tools to collect our search results?
The new Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise 2012 Summer Release offers exactly this possibility: Collect from all open interfaces. This helps a company’s employees to save time and energy for the most important tasks, thereby increasing customer satisfaction.
Typical news portals live for today, but what about yesterday, the day before yesterday and the story from the day before the day before yesterday?! Your interests determine your individual world of information. The question of when the Euro crisis actually began, for example. How we went from iPod to iPad? Or simply the history of my favorite ice hockey team.
With each monthly update, Mindbreeze continues to race along its path of further development. An often internationally neglected area is the topic of accessibility. People with disabilities and specialist needs should have the assurance that they can find the information that they’re looking for in the internet. Mindbreeze follows this principle and this is what makes it the perfect search machine for websites who want to be accessible. And with all due respect, if it was up to me, all websites would have to be accessible.
I’m frustrated. Not in general (I’m actually quite a happy chap!), but there’s something bugging me. As people get older (I’m still a fresh-faced 21 year-old by the way), thoughts can drift towards future plans. So I ended up surfing my local council website looking for information about house building. I was specifically looking for information about the energy performance certificate. The result wasn’t particularly enlightening. Continue reading
When the snow melts and spring is on the horizon, there’s an irrepressible urge to be outside. This urge must affect Mindbreeze too because it’s fully mobile and getting about everywhere! No matter where, when or what. Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise delivers the answer that you need. Continue reading
We’re all familiar with the famous sentence: “No results found, please try another search term“. Even when you know that there are articles related to a certain key word on your website, it happens all too frequently that the required information isn’t found. The reason for this misery is the fact that the value of a website is often underestimated. The visitor simply doesn’t find what he/she’s looking for. Fabasoft Mindbreeze InSite offers the solution.
Linz, late January 2012 – a business meeting with a marketing agency. The agency has designed a well-structured web portal for a large company. The problem: Standard search machines, in particular the one provided by CMS, are unproductive and don’t consider the website’s sophisticated structure. The best example: enter the search term “product” and the search delivers no results, even though product is its own category on the site. Even if the search produces a result for another term, there’s nothing more than a “relatively un-motivating list of links”, not really much help to a website visitor. Subjectively speaking, this is the core problem of most websites that I know, in particular those who only use the standard search capabilities of the CMS system. Continue reading
Call center employees are a rare species, a breed of all seeing, all-knowing, ever-present superhumans. Always under time pressure. Demanding customers. 101 different tasks. Always expected to provide the perfect answer. And that with a permanently friendly manner. A job of superlatives, at least in terms of workload and pressure to succeed.
A survey by German market analysts has shown that practically every second company uses Microsoft SharePoint. However, in Microsoft SharePoint only one facet of a company’s knowledge can be presented. The Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise 2012 Winter Release puts an end to this shortcoming. Continue reading
What would you say if your website could suddenly do more than you could even dream of? To be able to foresee what information a visitor to the website would like or need, for example. You could even call it “magic”.
Behind this “magic”, however is a great deal of digital know-how. The key term here is information pairing, under the motto “bringing together what belongs together“. To put it in concrete terms, the current Fabasoft Mindbreeze InSite release enables a maintenance-free, always up-to-date conflation of information from different areas. Always relevant. Always interesting. Always to the point. For both you and your website’s users.
… in Leading Analyst’s Enterprise Search MarketScope Report.
Linz, Austria, December 1, 2011 – Mindbreeze, a subsidiary of Fabasoft and leading provider of software for enterprise search and digital cognition, today announced that Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise received a “positive” rating in Gartner’s report entitled MarketScope for Enterprise Search1.
The MarketScope for Enterprise Search mainly serves as a source of information and basis for decision making for IT directors. In 2011, eight vendors were included. The analysis covers, among other aspects, product strategy, innovation, customer expericence, market understanding, overall viability of the company and business model. Reference client projects were also included in the evaluation.
Knowledge grows constantly. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. This applies to personal knowledge, both life experience and further learning in equal measures. The same concept applies to a company’s knowledge. Customers, partners and of course employees continuously bring new inputs, technological and commercial. Their perspective on the company and its products can highlight new opportunities and provide valuable feedback.
New York, JFK Airport, Monday Morning.
5 tiring conference days behind me, the joy of returning home in front of me. Even a 5 hour flight delay is no longer a big deal. An e-mail from a business partner still is however. He wants to know there and then which settings he needs to activate so that our embedded client runs smoothly in a Kerberos environment. As I said – to briefly re-set the scene – I’m sitting in JFK Airport in New York, 6 hours time difference, 5 hour delay, dog-tired and still need to shoot this detailed, precise information out from the hip. Roughly what he needs to do is in my head but the question warrants an exact answer. A second-grade response would be to write back: “take a look at the embedded client handbook”, it details exactly what you need to do. But this isn’t my understanding of service and service quality…
Simple, quick and secure
Cool. Smoothly operated. Fast. Welcome to the web requirements of the Web 2.0 generation. Here you can quickly end up looking old and left behind – without really wanting to. For me personally, it’s important to be able to find what I’m looking for – quickly. No great surprise seeing as I work in the search technology sector. I just feel particularly at ease on websites with quick, precise searches. It’s service for site visitors, a digital business card for the company or organization.
The Messe München International (MMI) is also convinced by the qualities that a precise search machine can bring and has therefore opted for Fabasoft Mindbreeze InSite.

More Convenince and Relevance
The Fabasoft Mindbreeze 2011 Summer Release alleviates search with search restrictions via tabs. In other words: if you are looking for records then you find records, not everything and anything that contains the term “record”.
A professional internet presence is an essential quality criterion for a company. Customers and website visitors want to find semantic contents quickly and efficiently. This applies especially for IT publications. The main goal is to provide a search for all available
online-portals and make the results available for the readers at split-second speed.
COMPUTERWELT publishes on several websites such as www.computerwelt.at, the company data base www.top1001.at and portals www.seitenclicke.at, www.itheads.at and www.it-termine.at. Over 300 articles are newly published each week.

As mentioned in my webinar, here is my latest presentation about our brand new 2011 Spring Release. This is an ideal starting point to get an overview in less than 5 minutes of the main innovations that we shipped with Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise 2011 Spring Release and Fabasoft Mindbreeze Mobile 2011 Spring Release.
Searching multiple sources/infrastructures manually is tedious, time consuming and relevant information is easily missed. With Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise such troubles are a thing of the past. Our Web Client allows you to search multiple installations using advanced federation possibilites.
Let me explain the most common use cases and show how they can be made easier using federation.
The standard task of the filter service in our architecture is to provide content-extraction and enrichment mechanisms to a series of known mime types (e. g. Microsoft Word documents, HTML files, etc.). Besides that, Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise offers a lot of enrichment intelligence with its content extraction pipeline. The content extraction pipeline enables the loading of powerful and tailored Post Filter Transformation plugins. An example of HTML filtering can be found here, but for more specific use cases you can extend the pipeline as needed. Continue reading
I am often asked how easy it is to deploy Fabasoft Mindbreeze products for enterprise and cloud infrastructures. We offer different delivery models for different scenarios and use cases – all optimized to bring down implementation times to an absolute minimum.
In an earlier article, we provided an overview outlining the possibilities of query transformations.
Reference article: Transforming Queries with Fabasoft Mindbreeze.
In this article we will discuss the Fabasoft Mindbreeze Synonym Transformer, a plugin which implements one particular transformation use case: Expanding the query by transforming a single user-provided query into multiple alternatives, thus dramatically increasing the possibility that users find what they are looking for. The importance of interoperability between Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software becomes more and more apparent because of the strengths and weaknesses of ECM software in different aspects. According to Gartner’s “Magic Quadrant for ECM”, published in September 2008, 69 % of enterprises have more than 6 different repositories. Integration of these repositories has led to development of protocols and open standards like CMIS. Continue reading
… for your high-end Search Infrastructure.
Since the Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise is a highly scalable and distributed system, it requires a sophisticated possibility to measure all components that are involved in answering queries. With Fabasoft app.telemetry we integrated a high-end application performance management tool. Let’s look at some top-level uses cases.
A short Introduction to Mobile Search on the iPad
During the last few months many companies have been in touch with me regarding our Mobile Search (Enterprise and Cloud) capabilities. People (sales, marketing, support, management) face the challenge of being able to access their enterprise and Cloud data anywhere and anytime on their tablets. Even content such as e-mails, attachments and contacts stored within Microsoft Outlook PSTs files located somewhere on a file share in their organization.

5 Use Cases of how to use InSite best
Fabasoft Mindbreeze InSite is our product to empower websites with professional high-end search cababilities. We offer InSite as a Cloud service and for on premise installation. Today, I would like to show how you can adapt the search-experience by defining views.
As we all know, information and knowledge nowadays is spread across enterprise (on-premise) applications and Cloud services. To make swift and informed decisions it is essential to get a fast understanding of the available information and of all relations and people/experts involved. Enteprise Search and especially Unified Information Access allows a perfect symbiosis of (on-premise) enterprise applications with Cloud services and Cloud Apps.
Search-based access to information is an important part of every enterprise-scale portal or website. In a previous article we discussed a few easy steps to search-enable a website using the Fabasoft Mindbreeze InApp client. Let’s now have a look under the hood and see how to achieve a successful site search experience with the most relevant and accurate results. Continue reading
Analysts predict that 2011 will be the year of mobile enterprise applications. Why now? The smartphone segment is undergoing permanent growth (Nielsen estimates that smartphones will account for 50% of US mobile devices by the end of the year) and the usage of 4G powered devices is growing dramatically, enabling enormous bandwidths on the go.
Mobile Information Access, Enterprise Search and Mobile Search are a perfect fit for today’s enterprise requirements. With Fabasoft Mindbreeze Mobile, accessing your corporate knowledge is possible with just 3 steps: Continue reading
… even on your iPad or smartphone.
As we all know, e-mail is mission critical for today’s daily business. Besides its communication function it is often still the most important knowledge base in many companies, e.g. to cooperate and collaborate with other companies. Fabasoft Mindbreeze Enterprise supports among others the three big enterprise mail systems: Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus and Novell GroupWise.
Showing search results in your website is hard? A new API to learn because your website uses a different programming language than available from your search engine vendor? Read on and learn how easy it can be to search-enable your content.

With the Lotus Domino product family, IBM aims to provide, besides the preconfigured groupware services, a fully-fledged platform for creating and deploying line-of-business (LOB) applications.
From the perspective of an enterprise search solution provider like Mindbreeze these Lotus Domino-based LOB applications present an interesting challenge: to build a customizable, fast information retrieval solution that covers data stored in a possibly wide range of Lotus Domino-based database-applications. When working with partners and customers using Microsoft SharePoint we often see teams starting to use the software as a replacement for their file shares or wikis. This approach often results in multiple Microsoft SharePoint installations, as well as many sites being newly created. Some companies install separate instances for each project-team, to get the most flexible solution. Sometimes this happens to “work around” grown organizational processes, other times it is because of “firewall” considerations. When working on one project or in one team this approach may not pose a problem. But what if you want to look something up and you are not sure in which “island” the information was stored?
What if you need to find all projects that a coworker and you have been working on together? Continue reading

A short introduction to Linked Data:
Linked Data is a project of the W3C with the goal of allowing you to discover, connect to, describe, and re-use all kinds of data. It is to data and information what the World Wide Web was to documents back in the 90′s. There is a good chance that it will once again change the way we interact with information. Continue reading
In 1992 the first smartphone was presented as a concept product of IBM at the COMDEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was called Simon and sold in 1993 by BellSouth. It already contained the following features: calendar, address book, world clock, calculator, notepad, e-mail, send and reveive fax, games.
18 years later, 4 billion people worldwide use mobile devices. And it’s no secret that more and more people (and all generations without any exceptions) make use of smartphones as their mobile devices. Interesting to know that in comparison just over 1 billion use desktop computers. Continue reading
